Pilates

Pilates is a method of therapeutic exercise created by Joseph Pilates, a German born physical therapy pioneer, who opened his studio in New York City in 1926. Using specially designed equipment, the method works by creating a balance of strength and flexibility, increased body awareness, fluidity and precise coordination.  inwardbound 184

The core strength Pilates develops lifts weight out of our joints to counter the effects of gravity. The combination of strength and flexibility generate a strong but supple body that is balanced and coordinated.

Mat Pilates, a portion of the Pilates matrix, brings strength to your back and abdominal muscles while adding resilience to the entire body. The classical Pilates machines were created not only for extra resistance and stretch, but also to help put the body into positions it normally wouldn’t be able to achieve on its own.

We offer private and semi-private instruction on the equipment, and group classes on the mat. The smaller the group setting you choose to participate in, the more easily we can design a specific program for your individual needs.
